Minimally Invasive Approach to Skin Tightening of the Face and Body: A Systematic Review of Monopolar and Bipolar Radiofrequency Devices
Rod J Rohrich, Kelly P Schultz, Edward S Chamata, Justin L Bellamy, Brendan Alleyne
There is clinical evidence that monopolar and bipolar radiofrequency devices produce measurable improvement in skin laxity of the face and body with an acceptable complication profile. Although the vast majority of reported complications are minor and transient in nature, major complication rates are higher with the use of monopolar devices than with the use of bipolar devices.

Split-face histological and biochemical evaluation of tightening efficacy using temperature- and impedance-controlled continuous non-invasive radiofrequency energy
Sylvie Boisnic , Marc Divaris, Marie-Christine Branchet, Andrew A Nelson
Skin tightening following treatment with non-invasive RF has proven histologically and biochemically to derive from increase in dermal collagen synthesis and content.

Effectiveness and side effects of bipolar radiofrequency to treat submental laxity
Prapawan Chawvavanich, Sasathorn Singthong, Klaichan Intarachaieua
The bipolar RF device is another potential choice for skin tightening due to its efficacy and safety profile. It can be used with any skin type and has few side effects.
